Heather Carey, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Bend Office
Before becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Heather worked in the outdoor milieu with adolescents as a recreation guide, mentor, and advocate. Important conversations with adolescents motivated her to pursue her higher education. After receiving her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Florida State University, Heather continued her work with youth, adults and families in the community mental health setting.
Heather’s professional commitment is to extend the information individuals need to make meaning that creates balance, self-efficacy, and perspective on how to restructure life’s stressors into strengths. Heather ascribes to the research suggesting that if the brain is built over time, from the bottom up, then early childhood experiences are the foundation to our social, emotional framework. The therapeutic space can be the difference for individuals and families to develop communication and connection necessary to overcome challenges and reclaim control over their lives.
As a result of some of Heather’s personal passions, she has had the privilege of travel which has exposed her to a variety of different cultures, faiths, and value-based systems, which has fueled her professional passion to consider the person and family’s whole system (i.e., education, environment, health, social beliefs, etc.). Heather practices from a trauma informed lens using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) along with mindfulness and strengths-based approaches to help clients reach their goals and improve their quality of life. And when appropriate, Heather has been known to dust the air with a little humor.
